Nancy Pelosi Meets With Taiwanese President as China Warns of Disastrous Consequences

Home Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday, in what she referred to as a present of American solidarity for the island, defying repeated warnings from Beijing and fueling U.S.-China tensions.

Mrs. Pelosi, the highest-ranking U.S. official to go to the island in a quarter-century, mentioned in an announcement shortly after touchdown that the journey signaled “America’s unwavering commitment to supporting Taiwan’s vibrant democracy.”
